On July 1, 2026, Microsoft stopped selling and renewing Reserved Instances on 18 legacy VM series, including the D, Dv2, Dsv2, Dv3, Av2, F, Fsv2, B, G, Ls and Lsv2 families that most enterprise estates still run on. The reservations you already hold keep discounting until the day they expire. After that, there is nothing to renew into.

That makes this a rolling problem, not a single deadline. Every legacy reservation on your books has its own expiry date somewhere between now and the 2028 VM retirements, and each one forces the same decision: modernize the workload to a supported series, cover it with a Savings Plan at a materially lower discount, or let it drift to pay-as-you-go and absorb the increase.
