The energy in Barcelona was electric as FinOps X Europe 2024 brought together cloud cost enthusiasts from around the globe.
FinOps X is an annual event focused on financial operations (FinOps) in the cloud industry. It brings together professionals from finance, technology, and operations to share best practices and strategies for cloud cost optimization. Hosted by the FinOps Foundation, it’s the ultimate gathering for anyone involved in FinOps to share knowledge, learn from industry leaders, and network with peers.
For the past few years, the ProsperOps team has been fortunate to be part of FinOps X, connecting with the community, learning from industry leaders, and hosting our popular 8-Bit Afterparty. After proudly sponsoring FinOps X in the United States for the last three years, heading to FinOps X Europe as a gold sponsor was a no-brainer for us.
FinOps X Europe, held from November 11 to 14 this year, set the stage for an unforgettable week of learning, collaboration, and celebration. From insightful breakout sessions and hands-on workshops to casual conversations with fellow attendees, the event reminded us why the FinOps community continues to thrive. As always, ProsperOps brought its A-game, creating meaningful connections, sharing our expertise, and throwing a party to remember!
Here’s a recap of everything that made FinOps X Europe 2024 special.
ProsperOps at FinOps X Europe 2024
Our team arrived in Barcelona ready to dive into the energy of FinOps X Europe 2024. The conversations, sessions, and even casual chats made every moment count from day one. Here’s how ProsperOps stood out:
Networking That Mattered
One of the best parts of the event was connecting with a diverse crowd—from startups to enterprise leaders. These weren’t just surface-level chats; attendees were eager to swap ideas, share their challenges, and hear how ProsperOps is changing the cloud cost optimization game.
A Booth Buzzing with Activity
Our booth became a hub of action, drawing in attendees for live demos of our autonomous cost optimization platform. The demos highlighted how organizations can simplify cloud financial management while driving significant savings, but the energy didn’t stop there! Our candy jar guessing game added a competitive twist, with attendees vying for sweet prizes.
Breakout Session: Elasticity by Design with Coinbase
Our collaborative session with Coinbase, “Elasticity by Design: Reducing Waste and Maximizing Savings,” presented by Stephen Arthur (Staff Software Engineer at Coinbase) and John Skinner (Senior FinOps Specialist at ProsperOps) was a highlight for us. The session dove into the details of how Coinbase’s FinOps team empowered engineers with better visibility into unit economics. This approach allowed them to increase elasticity, reduce pre-provisioned costs, and achieve smarter savings.
The packed session and thoughtful Q&A showcased the community’s appetite for actionable FinOps strategies that deliver real impact.

An Afterparty to Remember
No ProsperOps event is complete without an unforgettable celebration. On November 13, we hosted the ProsperOps Afterparty at the FIRE Restaurant inside the W Hotel. Fueled by great food, signature cocktails, and a live DJ, the atmosphere was a perfect setting to unwind and network.
Attendees loved our photo booth, and early arrivals scored limited-edition ProsperOps swag. It was the perfect way to end an incredible week of insights and connections.
Takeaways from FinOpsX Europe 2024
- FinOps Expands Beyond Public Cloud
FinOps is no longer just about managing costs in public cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Organizations are now applying FinOps principles to areas such as SaaS, licensing, private clouds, and even data centers. This evolution reflects FinOps’ growing relevance in managing the financial aspects of broader IT operations.
- Early Integration of FinOps in Product Development
Embedding FinOps practices early in the product lifecycle helps teams design cost-efficient solutions. This proactive approach prevents unexpected cost overruns and creates opportunities for incremental savings. The idea is simple: cost optimization isn’t an afterthought—it’s a foundational practice.
- Advancements in FOCUS Specification
The release of FOCUS 1.1 (FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification) brings new updates, such as improved metadata and additional billing data columns. These enhancements allow for deeper analysis of multi-cloud environments and better alignment of cloud usage data across vendors, giving organizations a clearer picture of their cloud spending.
- FinOps in the Era of AI
Generative AI makes FinOps more accessible by enabling natural language queries and data analysis. This democratizes FinOps, empowering non-technical stakeholders to engage with cloud cost data and take informed actions. It’s another step toward making FinOps insights more actionable for broader teams.
- GreenOps Gaining Traction
As sustainability becomes a global priority, integrating environmental impact metrics into FinOps is gaining momentum. Organizations are increasingly focused on optimizing not only costs but also carbon footprints. GreenOps reflects the intersection of financial efficiency and environmental responsibility.
